To provide a baseband encoding apparatus and a frequency modulation method using the same for improving mobile receiving performance in a Vestigial Sideband (VSB) system by improving TOV in an AWGN channel by applying four levels of VSB (4-VSB) applied with a TCM encoder in order to complement a problem in an 8-VSB transmission system.
In the baseband encoding apparatus in the VSB transmission system, the apparatus is provided with a 1/2 code rate Trellis Coded Modulation (TCM) encoder having four types of signal levels by obtaining a 2-bit output signal based on a 1-bit input signal by utilizing M delayers (M is a natural number) and N binary adders (N is a natural number) in basebands, and a symbol mapper having four types of output symbols by converting four signal levels of said 1/2 code rate TCM encoder to symbols.
