PURPOSE: To produce the titled polymer, consisting essentially of glycidyl (meth) acrylate, etc., and vinyl (meth)acrylate, etc., suitable as gel for high-speed liquid chromatography, etc., and having improved mechanical strength as well as high separation performance together.
CONSTITUTION: A beadlike polymer which is a copolymer, a consisting essentially of (A) glycidyl (meth)acrylate or (meth)allyl glycidyl ether and (B) vinyl (meth)acrylate or divinylspiromethadioxane and containing epoxy groups based on the component (A) or obtained by opening the ring and modifying the above- mentioned epoxy groups. The above-mentioned polymer is preferably obtained by suspension polymerizing the components (A) and (B) in the presence of a water-soluble polymer, e.g. methacrylic acid/sodium p-styrenesulfonate copolymer, etc., and an oil-soluble radical polymerization initiator, e.g. 2,2'- azobisisobutyronitrile, etc., at 2W7pH and 40W70°C temperature in an aqueous system.
