Abstract:
A bearing element 100, such as a bearing shell for an engine, has an overlay 106 which forms the bearing surface against a steel journal or the like. The overlay 106 is formed from a bearing material comprising a polymeric matrix of polyamide-imide (PAI) polymer material, and melamine cyanurate particles dispersed within the polymeric matrix. A bearing element comprising the bearing material, use of melamine cyanurate as a solid lubricant in a PAI polymeric bearing material, and methods of forming a bearing material and a bearing element are also provided.
