Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide a deriv. of the subject comprising a mesogenic compd. which consists of a specified benzene deriv. containing fluoroalkoxy groups, which is stable and has liquid crystal property and which can be used as a component of a liquid crystal medium and used for a liquid crystal display element or the like.
CONSTITUTION: A benzene deriv. expressed by formula I is treated with n-butyl lithium and reacted with trimethoxyboron and H2O2 to obtain a phenol deriv. expressed by formula II. The obtd. deriv. is derived into a Na salt and reacted with a compd. expressed by formula III to obtain the benzene deriv. of the purpose expressed by formula IV. In formula I, R is H, (substd.) 1-15C alkyl, (substd.) alkenyl or the like; L2 is H or F; A1, A2 are each trans-1,4-(substd.) cyclohexylene, 1,4-(substd.)phenylene, 1,4-bicyclo(2,2,2)-octylene or the like; Z1, Z2 are each COO, OCO, CH2O, CH2CH2, CH=CH or the like; (m) is 0, 1, 2. In formula III, X is H, F, Cl or CxH(2x+1-y)Fy ((x) is 1 to 5 and (y) satisfies 0≤y≤2x+1). In formula IV, L2 is the same as L1.
