Abstract:

PURPOSE: To stabilize operation of a blast furnace and reduce the coke ratio by precisely grasping the properties of coke at the tip of a tuyere of the furnace in operation.

CONSTITUTION: A high-speed camera or a television camera provided with a high- speed shutter is attached to the viewing window of a tuyere of a blast furnace. After stopping blowing of heavy oil into the tuyere, coke in a raceway is photographed. In accordance with the stationary image, the average diameter of the coke and the standard deviation of the diameter are obtd. In case the average diameter is reduced and the standard deviation of the data is raised, slip frequency increases and the condition of the furnace becomes unstable. Accordingly, the average diameter of coke and the standard deviation of the diameter are always controlled, and if they deviate from predetermined levels, operating action is immediately started to stabilize the condition of the furnace and reduce the coke ratio. By this method coke of low quality can be used in place of conventional blast furnace coke of high quality.
