Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal display device which has a large contrast ratio, high picture quality, a wide visual field angle and which is excellent in gray scale performance by including plural cavities and liquid crystal material filled in the gap formed in between first and second substrates and driving and changing arrangements of liquid crystal molecules being in the plural cavities and the gap while utilizing first and second electrodes.
SOLUTION: An insulator layer 100 in which plural cylindrical cavities 9 filled with liquid crystal are formed, a first substrate 10 provided with transparent electrodes 13 at a side near the insulator layer 100 and a second substrate 20 provided with transparent electrodes 23 at a side near the layer 100. The transparent electrodes 13, 23 drive arrangements of liquid crystal molecules being in the cavities 9 to change them. Moreover, this device includes a first linear polarizer 30 arranged on another side of the first substrate 10 and a second linear polarizer 40 arranged on another side of the second substrate 20 and the absorption axis of the second linear polarizer 40 is made to from a right angle with respect to the absorption axis of the first polarizer 30.
