PURPOSE: To constantly dispose the longitudinal bars of a hand rail in the vertical direction so as to secure resistance of the hand rail against vertical loads by supporting an upper cross frame between upper and lower longer cross frames in accordance with the installed state of a lower cross frame, by means of a cross-frame support unit in the form of parallel cranks.

CONSTITUTION: A support unit 5 for each of the cross frames of a handrail 1 is provided with upper and lower connecting members 8, 9 axially supported and fixed to the respective end portions of two longitudinal bars 6, 7 and arranged as parallel cranks. The end portions of the longitudinal bars 6, 7 are axially supported and fixed between the tongue pieces 11,... of the connecting members 8, 9 by screws 12,... in such a manner as capable of turning movement between the tongue pieces 11,... A lower cross frame 4 is placed on a rising wall A via base metal fittings 15 and extended in the longitudinal direction of the wall A and a reference position is decided and the lower connecting member 9 of the support unit 5 is further placed thereon. A nut 20 is threadably engaged with the end of a bolt 17 from the surface side of a support base 10 and is integrally fixed. Thus, in accordance with the installed state of the lower cross frame, an upper cross frame is supported between upper and lower longer cross frames by the cross-frame support unit in the form of parallel cranks.
