To provide a brake controller capable of applying smooth braking by preventing a sudden braking force change when an assist brake is released from its braking by the assist brake and an operation is switched only to a service brake.

When a brake pedal is depressed, an assist bake 2 is actuated, and the braking pressure of a brake valve 5 is reduced by a pressure reduction valve 22 and applied to a wheel cylinder 9. When a car speed becomes low, the assist brake is changed from an operative state to an inoperative state, a pressure reduction selector valve 24 is switched to a pressure reduction valve 23 side, and the braking pressure of the brake valve 5 is reduced and applied to the wheel cylinder 9. The braking pressure of the pressure reduction valve 23 is higher than that of the pressure reduction valve 22. Then, a passage switching valve 7 is changed over from a passage 13 to a passage 10, and the braking pressure of the brake valve 5 is applied to the wheel cylinder 9. Thus, a braking force when the assist brake is changed from an operative state to an inoperative state and braking is applied only by a service brake is gradually increased, and braking shocks are reduced.
