To provide a brake device of an elevator hoist machine capable of extending a lining life while stably holding a friction coefficient of a brake lining.
The brake device of the elevator hoist machine includes: a brake drum 1, having a groove 5 formed in an axial direction on a brake surface, and rotating in conjunction with a drive sheave of the elevator hoist machine; the brake lining 3 arranged to face the brake surface of the brake drum 1; an abrasive piece 6 mounted to the groove 5, and grinding the brake surface of the brake lining 3; and a brake piece 9 mounted on the groove 5, and providing a brake force between the brake lining 3 and itself when the elevator hoist machine is braked. When the elevator hoist machine is normally used, the brake piece 9 is mounted to the groove 5. When grinding the brake surface of the brake lining 3, the abrasive piece 6 is mounted to the groove 5.
