To provide a brake pad which can prevent generation of 'unusual sound' during braking without incurring disadvantages such as rise of manufacturing cost, degradation of a braking characteristic and durability, and so on, and to provide an unusual sound generation prevention method therefor.

The unusual sound generation prevention method is characterized in that antifriction blocks are arranged in a part of the surface of a friction material and the unusual sound generation during braking is prevented under the action of antifriction powder produced by friction with braked surface. The brake pad, wherein the friction material is mounted on a base member, is characterized in that the antifriction blocks of which main material comprise a mineral matter material and which have property to wear down together with the friction material is embedded in burial holes arranged spotwise on the surface of the friction material. The imbedding hole for rivet for fitting up the friction material can also be used for the burial hole.
