PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brake ring for a package brake of a textile machine for manufacturing a winding package.SOLUTION: A brake ring (38) has a braking surface portion (50) for a pressed contact which generates a frictional coupling with a friction surface portion of an associated brake lining at a braking position of a package brake. The brake ring (38) is characterized in that the braking surface portion (50) has a nickel silicon carbide coating, or a chemically nickel plated layer deposited on the nickel silicon carbide coating, as a cover layer.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
