Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a novel bridged cyclopentadienylmagnesium compound useful as an important starting material in preparing metallocenes.
CONSTITUTION: The objective novel compound is represented by formula I [wherein Cp is cyclopentadienyl or indenyl; R and R' are each an alkyl, a phosphine, an amine or an alkyl ether; 0≤a≤4, 0≤a'≤4; C'p is one of the groups Cp and NR'' (wherein R'' is an alkyl or an aryl; and a'=1); Q is a one- or multi-membered bridge between Cp and C'p and a group of formula II (wherein R1 and R2 are each H, a 1-10C alkyl or a 6-10C aryl; Z is C, Si or Ge; and (b) is 1, 2 or 3)], e.g. ethylenebis(indenyl) magnesium or the like. The compound of formula I can be obtained, e.g. by reacting a bridged cyclopentadienyl-compound of formula III with a magnesium compound of the formula: (R3R4)cMg (wherein R3 and R4 are each H or a 1-12C alkyl; and (c) is 0 or 1) in the presence of an inert solvent (e.g. petroleum ether, heptane, octane or the like).
