PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brushless motor drive capable of controlling braking, stopping, and positioning easily even while it is being rotated by an external factor, eliminating excessive burden on a drive circuit and the motor, and conducting starting with the demagnetization of a permanent magnet suppressed.
SOLUTION: This drive is provided with a single Hall element 2 detecting the pole position of the rotor of a brushless motor, an inverter circuit 3 which includes a plurality of bridge-connected switching elements, and supplies and cuts off current to the starter winding of the brushless motor, and a control means 100 for on/off-controlling the switching element of the inverter circuit, based on the outputted signal of the Hall element. The control means 100 is synchronized with the output signal of the Hall element 2, before the brushless motor starts and on/off controls the switching element so as to cause PWM current to flow through the starter winding, according to at least one energizing pattern of a plurality of energizing patterns which conduct switching-energization at the time of operation, thereby braking, stopping, and positioning it.
