To improve the visibility of a camera and an electronic apparatus display device.
A photometric sensor 153 capable of measuring the luminance distribution of the back surface of a camera 1 is used to detect the luminance (facial luminance Ba) of the face portion of a photographer and the luminance (peripheral luminance Bb) of the periphery of the face portion. It is determined whether the camera is in a backlight condition, by determining the high and low relation between the face luminance Ba and the peripheral luminance Bb. If the face luminance Ba is higher than the peripheral luminance Bb, it is determined that the camera is in the backlight state, and the luminance of a backlight 7b is increased. In this way, if the face of a subject is irradiated directly with a light from a light source in the backlight state and the user's face is reflected on the display surface of the display monitor 7 or the surface of a protective glass, deterioration in the visibility of the display monitor 7 is suppressed and the visibility of the display monitor 7 can be ensured.
