To provide a car washing machine wherein the pressing strength of a side brush for washing the side surface of a vehicle to be washed can be maintained at an appropriate magnitude even for vehicle types having different hood heights; and a side brush washing method achieving safe and stable washing by simple control.
In the car washing machine, the side brush 5 is abutted against the side surface of the vehicle CA to be washed, and the vehicle washing is carried out with a space from the vehicle a predetermined return distance according to the hood height. In the side brush washing method, washing is carried out at a position obtained by returning a longer distance when the vehicle has a low hood height than that when the vehicle has a high hood height from a state that the side brush is abutted against the side surface of the vehicle to be washed and inclined at a predetermined angle.
