To suppress the increase in the speed of an electric powered vehicle 1 during clutch disengagement, without impairing user-friendliness.
The electric powered vehicle 1 includes a drive motor 32; a drive shaft 24 for transmitting a drive force from the drive motor 32 to driving wheels 22; a clutch 35 for connecting or disconnecting the drive coupling between the drive motor 32 and the drive shaft 24; a generator 41 driven by the rotation of the drive shaft 24 at least during the disconnection of the drive coupling between the drive motor 32 and the drive shaft 24; and an electromagnetic brake 5 using a magneto-rheological fluid which applies a braking force to the drive shaft 24 during the disconnection of the drive coupling between the drive motor 32 and the drive shaft 24 by receiving power supply from the generator 41.
