To provide a carburization depth control method capable of easily adjusting the carburization depth of an article to be treated even in direct carburization under an atmospheric pressure, and a carburizing apparatus.
The carburization depth control method for controlling the carburization depth of the article 2 to be treated carburized under the atmospheric pressure includes a carburization step (S110), and in the case of the carburization step (S110) in which a carburizing gas is introduced into a treatment chamber 30 housing the article 2 to carburize the article 2 under the atmospheric pressure, wherein the velocity of flow of the carburizing gas to be introduced into the treatment chamber 30 is changed according to the target value of the carburization depth of the article 2. More specifically, the relationship between the velocity of flow of the carburizing gas and the carburization depth of the article 2 is previously determined and the velocity of flow of the carburizing gas complying with the target value of the carburization depth of the article 2 is computed.
