A cleaning means 4 having a cleaning belt 35 wound around a driving roller 33 and a driven roller 34 is turnably provided in an upper part of the electrostatic carrying belt 17 at a constant interval. The cleaning means 4 is turned to the carrying belt 17 side to bring the cleaning belt 35 into contact with a surface of the carrying belt 17, and the cleaning belt 17 contacting with the surface of the carrying belt 17 is moved along the carrying belt 17 to wipe out adhering foreign matter with the cleaning belt 17 rotated by the driving roller 33 and the driven roller 34.
