To cast a casting wherein the temperature of a molten metal is rapidly dropped after filling the molten metal in a die, thereby the casting cycle can be shortened, any so-called shrinkage cavity or shrinkage looseness easy to be formed during the solidification of the molten metal is not formed, and the surface of the casting is excellent.
A casting apparatus is constituted so that a molten metal is filled in a die 4 from a molten metal tank where the metal is stored in a molten state via a stoke 8, and the molten metal is solidified in the die 4 to form a casting. In the casting apparatus, a cooling means is provided on the die 4. A mist cooling means is provided, which forcibly feeds the mist to mist pipes 26, 27 embedded in the die 4 from an atomizer 19. The cooling means is provided only on an upper die 6 opposite to a sprue 9, out of the die 4. In addition, a heating means for heating the die 4 is provided in order to form the temperature gradient from the sprue 9 to the side opposite thereto in the die 4.
