Abstract:
A base metal or alloy (M) in the molten state is further alloyed with readily oxidizable elements (19) in an alloying chamber (10) containing a protective atmosphere, whereupon a plugged hole (14) in the alloying chamber is opened to allow the alloy to flow into a mold (16) cavity also previously filled with a non-oxidizing atmosphere; consequently, the easily oxidized alloy is cast in the absence of atmospheric oxygen.
