Abstract:

To reduce the occurrence of misruns by reducing the viscosity of a melted casting raw material in the production of a casting in which a reinforcing material is dispersed.

The casting raw material A has a cross-sectional structure where a plurality of metallic phases B composed of a metallic material for casting and elongating along one direction and a plurality of composite phases C obtained by mixing a reinforcing material such as ceramic powder into a metallic material for casting and elongating along one direction are alternately arranged. The raw material for casting is produced by charging a mixture 20 of a fine piece-shaped or granular pulverized material and a reinforcing material into a cylindrical container 11, heating the mixture to a softening temperature which is the melting point of the metallic material for casting or below and at which deformation is made easy, and extruding the same from an extrusion port 18 with a diameter smaller than the inside diameter of the container 11. Preferably, a magnesium alloy for casting is used as the metallic material for casting, and silicon carbide or the like is used as the reinforcing material.
