Title:
CATALYST CARRIER HAVING LARGE SPECIFIC SURFACE AREA
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH06126170
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a carrier without remarkable reduction of its specific surface area even at high temperatures and without cohesion even when it carries noble metals by being composed of an Al-Ca double oxide having a constant Al : Ca ratio made by adding Ca to Al2O3.

CONSTITUTION: An Al-Ca double oxide having a molar ratio of Al:Ca =-32:3 is made by adding Ca to Al2O3. In another case, an Al-Sr double oxide having a molar ratio of Al:Sr = 12:1 is made by adding Sr to Al2O3. The carrier obtained above can keep the specific surface area at 1200°C or below since Ca and Sr increase the crystal transition temperature of Al2O3: no remarkable decrease in the specific surface area is found at 1000°C or more, and the specific surface area is kept at 40m2/g or more at 1100°C. Accordingly, when the carrier is loaded with a combustion catalyst such as Pd or Pt, the catalytic activity is maintained at high temperatures without cohesion of Pd, Pt, etc.
