Abstract:

PURPOSE: To surely judge deterioration of a catalyst regardless of a shift of a control phase to each bank, in an internal combustion engine having a plurality of cylinder banks.
CONSTITUTION: By decreasing an air-fuel ratio correction coefficient relating to a right bank SBM and by using a left bank correction coefficient FAFM as a right bank correction coefficient FAFM to synchronize phases of both as shown in (B) or by performing dither control relating to the right bank SBM as shown in (C), an influence of air-fuel ratio fluctuation can be decreased. Accordingly, though a single assist air-fuel ratio sensor 25 is provided, a change of air-fuel ratio relating to a left bank SBH can be surely caught, and when a deterioration condition of a catalyst 17 is decided based on a result of detecting a left air-fuel ratio sensor 21 and the assist air-fuel ratio sensor 25, deterioration of the catalyst 17 can be surely judged despite a shift of a control phase to both the banks SBH, SBM.
