Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst which preferentially catalyzes urea formation, is very lowly odorous and shows small temperature dependency, by using a specified compound having an ether bond and a tert. amino group in the molecule as a component.

CONSTITUTION: A catalyst comprising a compound of the formula. The amount of said catalyst used is preferably in the range of 0.01W20pts.wt. per 100pts.wt. polyol used in the production of a polyurethane. The compound of the formula can be easily produced by a chloride process comprising chlorinating triethylene glycol by reaction with chlorine and reacting the product with dimethylamine or a direct process comprising reacting triethylene glycol with dimethylamine in the presence of a catalyst and hydrogen. If necessary, additives such as a blowing agent, surfactant and flame retardant can be used in producing a polyurethane by using this catalyst.
