Abstract:
PURPOSE:To lower the electrolytic voltage, by using previously formed porous water repellent sheet made of polytetrafluoroethylene etc. and using the cathode carried the catalytic substance which promotes the generation of hydroxy radical. CONSTITUTION:The electrolytic bath 1 is partitioned into the anode room 4 provided with the anode 3 and the cathode room 5 by the cation exchange membrane 2 and the oxygen-containing gas supply room 7 is constituted in the room 5 by providing with the cathode 6 carried the catalytic substance composed of platinum, palladium, silver on the sheet made of copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and tetrafluoroethylene-ethylene. Aqueous solution of alkali chloride as electrolyte is introduced from the introducing opening 8 and is discharged from the solution exit 9 and then, produced caustic alkali is extracted from the exit 11. Physical properties of said cathode are as follows; 0.01-30mu mean pore diameter, 30-98% porosity, 10<-5>-10<-1>mol/cm<2>.min.cmHg air permeability, 5-500mu-thickness and catalytic substance porous body is put between the sheets. Besides, carrying quantity of the catalyst on the sheet is 0.01-100mg/cm<2>.
