A panel 22 has a face plate 20 which has substantially a flat external surface and a substantially spherical inner surface, a skirt portion 21 extending almost in the vertical direction from the periphery 20C of the face plate 20, and a curved junction portion 23 connecting the periphery of the inner surface of the face plate 20 with the skirt portion 21. An implosion proof band 38 is attached to the outer peripheral portion of the panel 22. Distance (a) refers to the distance between a center of curvature of the curved junction portion 23 and the inner surface of the face plate 20, measured in the direction of the cathode-ray tube axis, and distance (b) refers to the distance between the center of curvature of the curved junction portion 23 and one end of the implosion proof band extending to the funnel side, parallel to the cathode-ray tube axis.
