Abstract:

To provide a substance effective in preventing and treating (1) Alzheimer's disease, dementia, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and the like caused by nerve cell death, (2) cranial nerve cell death occurring in prognosis of ischemic cerebral function disorder such as cerebral infarction, (3) ischemic disease such as angina pectoris and myocardial infarction, (4) metabolic disease such as diabetes, (5) cancer and (6) stroke by supplementing the shortage of intracellular ATP to prevent the cell death against the cell death caused by the stay of extracellular potassium ion.

There is provided a cell death-inhibiting composition containing eudesmane-type sesquiterpenoid derivative as an active ingredient. There is also provided a treating agent of diseases caused by the cell death, containing the cell death-inhibiting composition as an active ingredient.
