Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a ceramic honeycomb catalyst with a low heat capacity, which is carried in a ceramic honeycomb structure including thin partitions but having adequate isostatic breaking strength.

CONSTITUTION: In a ceramic honeycomb structure 10 of a catalyst carrier, the thickness of the peripheral wall 11 is at least 0.1mm, and the thickness (t) of the partition wall 12 which forms a passage inside the peripheral wall 11 is 0.050-0.150mm. The opening OFA and the bulk density G, when k = true specific gravity of a material - porosity of a material, satisfy the following expressions: 0.65≤OFA≤-0.58×t+0.98 and k×{1-(-0.58×t+0.98)}≤G≤k×0.35. The heat capacity of 1m3 of the catalyst carried in the honeycomb structure 10 is 450kJ/K or less. The honeycomb structure 10, containing the catalyst of low heat capacity, can have an A axis compressive strength of 50kgf/cm2 or more and a B axis compressive strength 5kgf/cm2 or more.
