Abstract:

PURPOSE: To shorten dictionary retrieving time and to reduce the capacity of a dictionary by removing distinction between an index and notation, registering data allowing reading to correspond to each KANJI (Chinese character) in a word and storing reading and the index of the KANJI.
CONSTITUTION: This character converter is provided with a word dictionary, a handwriting tablet 5 and a CPU 1 for converting an inputted character string mixedly including KANJI and KANA (Japanese syllabary) characters into a normal KANJI/KANA mixed sentence while referring to the word dictionary. The word dictionary is constituted of a dictionary body registering data allowing reading to correspond to KANJI in each word, a reading index for retrieving the dictionary body from the reading of the KANJI/KANA mixed character string and a leading KANJI index for retrieving the dictionary body from a leading KANJI when the leading character of the KANJI/KANA mixed character string is KANJI.
