To provide a method capable of efficiently inputting characters by using a small-sized virtual key board in an information processor for inputting characters with a pointing device.
In the information processor for specifying an input item by selecting with the pointing device the input item displayed on a display, by the character input means when a Japanese character string is inputted, a first key board 301 where input items arranged as the reference letters of each character of the (a) utmost row of the Japanese syllabary disposed in one row are displayed on the display, and when the input items are selected from the first key board 301 displayed, the input items where each character of the lines of the corresponding Japanese syllabary array is laid out are additionally displayed as a second key board 302 on the display and the input items again selected from the second key board 302 or the first key board 301 displayed are processed as the input characters.
