To keep the functions of charcoal such as adsorptive property for a long period by incorporating a larger quantity of an inorganic compound having photocatalytic action in charcoal from the surface up to the depth to decompose the fine particles of harmful materials or malodor causing materials adsorbed in very fine pores present in the depth.
The charcoal containing the inorganic compound having the photocatalytic action is obtained by dipping charcoal or a raw material to become the charcoal in a suspension of the inorganic compound having the photocatalytic action, retaining the charcoal under a vacuum condition for a prescribed time in the dipping state, draining and drying a liquid portion in the charcoal or its raw material, heating the dried charcoal or the raw material under a vacuum condition at a prescribed temperature to carbonize the raw material and sintering the inorganic compound on the charcoal.
