To provide a charge controller wherein a secondary battery is charged to a proper level, the time required for charging is reduced without replacing the battery with a battery with a less capacity, and deterioration in the battery is reduced for solving some problems.
A table of average power consumptions corresponding to a plurality of operation modes is stored in memory 8. When a user sets his request how many hours the user desires to use equipment in an operation mode using an input device 6, a computation and control part 11 of a microcomputer 2 calculates a required quantity of charging for a secondary battery 3 from a value obtained by multiplying average power consumption by an operating time, and, when the remaining capacity of the battery reaches the required amount of charging, informs the user of that. The charge controller is also provided with a function of stopping charging when the remaining capacity of the battery reaches the required amount of charging. Thus, the battery can be charged to a proper level according to a required amount of charging, and with this constitution, the time required for charging is reduced and deterioration in the battery is reduced as compared to the cases where the battery is fully charged.
