To provide a charging apparatus wherein charging terminals are protected and prevented from deteriorating and being deformed and damaged when not in use and carried along for the enhancement of reliability, and electric shock is prevented when in use for the enhacement of safety.
A charging power supply 1A provided with an AC plug 11 and a battery holder 2A provided with a battery housing 20 for loading secondary batteries 3 are coupled together by a hinge 4 so that they are openable and closable. The opening/closing state of an enclosure and whether secondary batteries 3 are loaded or not are determined respectively by an enclosure opening/closing detection switch 42A and a secondary battery loading detection switch 31A. Charging voltage is supplied from a charging circuit 22a to secondary batteries 3 only when the enclosure is open and the secondary batteries 3 are loaded.
