When a plug 300 on a vehicle 2 is inserted into a receptacle 120 on a charging apparatus 1, a lock 130 is locked to start charging by a power supply unit 121. When codes printed on, for example, a parking ticket or a receipt for a parking area are read and checked by an input unit 113, if the vehicle 2 is authenticated as a vehicle for which charging is permitted, locking by the lock 130 is released. If not authenticated, locking is not released, thereby prohibiting unauthorized charging. In the event of occurrence of unauthorized plug pullout, an alarm is issued by an alarm unit 111, or a number plate is photographed by a photographing unit 112.
