PURPOSE: To input KANJI (Chinese character) to a small-sized electronic computer effectively, by using a space or return key for selecting up to three single characters or a selection key for one character for selecting other single character or a fixed-form phrase.

CONSTITUTION: When three KANJIs correspond to their code data, code data of every three characters is stored in a memory in the alphabetical order of two letters of the alphabet. Then two key characters in combination are inputted on a keyboard to read code data on three characters and respective KANJIs are displayed in left, center, and middle arrangement at the lower left corner of a display screen. In this case, the left-hand side KANJI is employed in a main document without hitting a selection key. On the other hand, a space key for the center KANJI and a return key for the right KANJI are operated to replace the KANJI in the main document with the selected KANJI.
