PURPOSE: To obtain a chip type variable resistor having a stopper mechanism without increasing a number of parts by a method wherein, as a stopper mechanism for restricting a rotation range of a slider so that a sliding contact of the slider slides only on a resistor, a projection member is formed in the slider and on the other hand a projection part is formed in a slider supporting board.

CONSTITUTION: A slider 1 comprises: an upper surface plate 2 that a thin metal plate is pressed to form an engaging groove of an adjusting tool; a bowl-like plate 4 integrally connecting with one end edge of the upper surface plate 2 via a connection part 3 having a bent line 3a; and a sliding terminal plate 6 integrally connecting with another end edge of the upper surface plate 2 via a connection part 5 having a bent line 5a. A hole 7 for fitting at a top end of a hollow shaft of a center terminal plate of a slider supporting board 11 is provided in a center part of the bowl-like plate 4, and also a cavity 15 is formed in a portion corresponding to an engaging groove of the upper surface plate 2. Further, a slit 9a is provided in a sliding contact 9 of the sliding terminal plate 6 and a projection member 10 is formed in an external edge of the fowl-like plate 4.
