Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide an undangerous temporary circulating auxiliary pump which can help a heart by offering a sufficient quantity of bloodstream and can enable a patient to survive until the heart is cured or while waiting for transplantation and can also be easily transplanted by constituting a pump inserted into the left vertricle of the heart by a catheter so as to utilize an impeller. CONSTITUTION: A blood pump 14 installed in a front end part of a catheter 16 is inserted into the left ventricle 10 of a heart 12 through the thigh part artery 18. The pump 14 is driven by a flexible driving shaft 30 extending in the catheter 16, and a shaft 30 is driven by a motor 31 arranged on the outside of the body of a patient. The pump 14 has a housing 36, and an impeller 38 is housed in the housing 36. Rotary motion of the impeller 38 generates thrust force, and this thrust force pulls blood in the housing 36, and discharges it in an aorta 24 through a port arranged in an opening part 52 and an outflow end part 34, and circulates it in a blood system of the patient.
