PURPOSE: To obtain a modified acryl copolymer useful as film forming vehicle of thermosetting coating materials by constituting the same by adding a predetermined ratio of an acryl copolymer and a specific citric ester at least partially grafted thereto.
CONSTITUTION: A modified acryl copolymer is constituted by adding about 15-95 wt.% of an acryl copolymer (e.g.; styrene/butyl acrylate/butyl acylate/ hydroxypropyl methacrylate copolymer) and about 85-5 wt.% of citric ester with an acid value of below 35 represented by formula I (wherein R1 and R2 are each a group represented by formula II and/or formula III; R3 is H or groups represented by formulae IV-V; R4 and R5 are each H, a 1 - about 32C alkyl, a cycloalkyl or an alkyl ester and the sum total number of C-atoms of both of them is 0 - about 32; R6 is a 1 - about 18C alkyl or a 1 - about 10C cycloalkyl; (x) is 3-18; and the total number of OH groups of R1-R3 is about 1.5-3 and the sum total number of C-atoms of them is 6 - about 40).
