PURPOSE: To remove surely the foreign matter of a holding member having the fine through-hole in the stage of cleaning said hole by inserting a wire-shaped body on which a fine particulate cleaning agent is coated into said hole to clean preliminarily the hole then cleaning the hole by ultrasonic cleaning, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A wire-shaped body 16 for preliminary cleaning having the outside diameter slightly smaller than the inside diameter size of the fine hole 11 of a holding member 11 which has the fine through-hole 11 and is used to hold the bar-shaped bodies such as optical fibers or the like inserted into the hole from both end sides in the state of butting the end faces to each other is prepd. in the stage of cleaning said hole 11. A cleaning agent 17 consisting of fine particles having polishing and cleaning functions is coated on the outside circumference of such body 16 and is inserted into the hole 11. The body 16 is relatively moved with the hole 11 to clean preliminarily the hole. The body 16 is then removed from the hole 11 and the hole 11 is cleaned by ultrasonic cleaning, etc. by which the foreign matter 12 in the hole 11 is removed.
