Abstract:
To update the software code of a machine, e.g. a printer, using a client replaceable unit (CRU) without requiring to call a service engineer.
The replaceable subassembly (CRU) 1 separable from the machine 100 has a memory (CRUM) 30. The memory stores the software code/upgrade of an executable instruction concerning to utilization of the replaceable subassembly. In the operation of the machine, the replaceable subassembly is placed in the machine and the memory is read out. The stored software code/upgrade is then placed in the machine as a new executable instruction, and a machine having the replaceable subassembly is operated based on the new executable instruction.
