PURPOSE: The title coating powder composition having improved weatherability free from whitening or chalking even by long-term exposure, comprising a specific blend of (A) a polyfunctional epoxy resin as a hardener and (B) a carboxyl group- containing vinyl copolymer as a vehicle.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A polyfunctional epoxy resin of the bisphenol, novolak type, etc. having improved weatherability as a hardener is incorporated with (B) a carboxyl group-containing vinyl copolymer having a number-average molecular weight of about 3,000W15,000 and a soltening point of about 80W150°C at an equivalent ratio of the epoxy group in (A) to the carboxy group in (B) of 1.1W2:1, preferably 1.4W1.8:1 to give a vehicle. The resulting vehicle is mixed with a desired pigment to afford a coating powder. The copolymer (B) is obtained by copolymerizing a carboxyl group-containing monomer, e.g. (meth)acrylic, itaconic acids, etc. with a vinyl monomer, e.g. styrene, (meth)acrylic ester, etc.
