PURPOSE: To reduce the space occupied by a developing device to a half and reduce the waste of paper by reciprocating a recording medium for the developing device and developing an electrostatic latent image on a forward path as well as backward path.
CONSTITUTION: The developing devices 12aW12c which develop the electrostatic latent image, which is formed on the recording medium 11, in different colors are arranged side by side. The medium 11 is reciprocated for one of the developing devices 12aW12c at least, and the electrostatic latent image is developed on the forward path as well as the backward path. Consequently, the space which is occupied by he developing devices is reduced to a half and the waste of paper is reduced in case a developer usable time is the same. The developer usable time is extended in case the degree of wasted paper is the same.
