PURPOSE: To provide a high-sensitivity color image pickup device with no picture quality degradation.

CONSTITUTION: This device is provided with a digital part for digitally converting a luminance signal Y and a chrominance signal C, storing them in memories 6y and 6c, performing desired read processing, converting those signals to analog signals again and outputting them. A detection part 12 detects the levels of luminance signal and chrominance signal and when the luminance level is lower than a prescribed level, selectors 9 and 10 select the output of the digital part but when the luminance level exceeds the prescribed level, the luminance signal Y and the chrominance signal C are selected. When the chrominance signal level is lower than a prescribed level, selectors 5 and 7 at the digital part are switched so as not to perform any digital processing of the chrominance signal C, and a cyclic noise reducer is constituted by using the memories 6y and 6c.
