To provide a colored water-absorbing material which relieves the uncertainty of transfer from a photoconductive surface to recording paper or the like and suppresses untransfer or diffused transfer, by which the quality of an image is lowered, by making good use of the advantages of an image forming process by an electrophotographic system by which high-speed image output is enabled and also the advantages of a water absorbing material used in an interim transfer ink jet system, and to provide an image forming device and method using the colored water-absorbing material.

Image formation is carried out by using a colored water- absorbing material for image formation which enables electrification and can retain electric charge.
