To thermally decompose formaldehyde and VOCs generated from a building material or the like in a room or fungi or bacteria floating in indoor air by operating a combustion apparatus provided with a noble metal catalyst layer containing at least one of platinum and palladium formed on the surface of sintered oxide.
This combustion apparatus is provided with a heat source part 2, the heat shield member 9 surrounding the heat source part 2, the air passage 4 around the heat shield member 9, a plurality of flow straightening plates 3 (3a, 3b) arranged in the air passage 4 on the downstream side of the heat source part 2, a blower 5, a sensor 7 detecting the substance sucked from the suction port of the blower 5, a temp. sensor 6 detecting indoor temp. and a control circuit 8 controlling the air amt. or operation time of the blower 5 on the basis of the data from the sensors 6, 7. Sintered oxide containing aluminum, cerium, barium and titanium oxide is formed on the surface layer of the base material of at least one of the flow straightening plates 3 and a noble metal layer containing at least one of platinum and palladium is formed on the surface of the sintered oxide.
