To sustain stability of flame substantially over the entire combustion period by disposing an ejector in a glory hole passing an oxidizing gas and controlling the combustion operation such that a coefficient represented by a specified expression and related to the ejector satisfies a specified value.
In a combustion system employing a liquid fuel and an oxidizing agent containing 20-100 vol.% of oxygen and a mixture gas ejector 2 having inner height d is disposed in a glory hole 1 having inner height D at the mixture gas ejection side end, a coefficient S represented by an expression: S=a1 Vequivalent-a2L/a3d(2e-L/10d), is sustained at 1 or less substantially over the entire combustion period in order to stabilize the flame. In the expression, a1=2.5×10-11, a2=2×10-9, a3=0.00875 γ +0.525, L is the distance between the end face of the ejector 2 and the downstream end face of the glory hole 1, and Vequivalent is an equivalent speed.
