To provide a mechanism that causes a mode to transit from a normal power mode to a power saving mode when a communication rate is changed on condition that required authentication processing is completed.
In a communication apparatus to be connected to a network, while the apparatus is operating in a normal power mode, the fulfillment of the condition that the mode transits from the normal power mode to the power saving mode, in which power consumption is smaller than that in the normal power mode, is detected (S401), and when the fulfillment of the condition to transit to the power saving mode is detected, the communication apparatus changes the communication rate when performing communication via the network (S406) and when the communication rate is changed, the communication apparatus performs the authentication processing required to perform communication via the network (S408) and causes the mode to transit from the normal power mode to the power saving mode on condition that the authentication processing is completed (S410).
