To easily and effectively deal with a software fault in a communication system wherein each of transmission devices constituting a network is logically divided into a plurality of virtual transmission devices and each of the virtual transmission devices is configured to be operated by a routing software prepared individually.
A transmission device receives a signal, determines a transfer destination of the signal in accordance with a prescribed protocol, and transmits the signal to the transfer destination. The transmission device is logically divided into a plurality of virtual transmission devices. Among the plurality of virtual transmission devices, a first virtual transmission device is operated by routing software of a first version. Among the plurality of virtual transmission devices, a second virtual transmission device is operated by a second routing software newer than the first version. A quantitative magnitude relation of signal processing resources assigned to the first and the second virtual transmission devices is inverted before and after a software fault occurs in routing due to the second routing software.
