To provide a communication type map display device which can avert useless communication by making the check of the already held map data possible and can thereby prevent the occurrence of an unnecessary communication cost.

The communication type map display device is equipped with an input section 11 which forms an input instruction signal according to an inputted operation, a communication section 12 which acquires the map data by making communication with external devices 3a to n, a control section 15 which acquires the map data from the external devices 3a to n by controlling the communication section 12 according to the input instruction signal and forms image data of display image of a map screen or region screen by subjecting the acquired map data to image processing, a memory section 13 which memorizes the map data received by the communication section 12 or the management data etc., of the map data, and a display element 14 which displays the prescribed image including the display image formed by the control section. The display device has the configuration capable of displaying the region screen of the region of the memorized map data or the region of the map data to be acquired.
