PURPOSE: To automatically compensate characteristics of oscillators at replacement, by providing an electrode for characteristic discrimination to an oscillator having arbitrary characteristics and automatically switching the compensating circuit depending on the characteristics of the oscillator to be detected.

CONSTITUTION: In a holder 1 consisting of an isolating base plate 2 and a cap, an oscillation bar 4 having the arbitrary temperature characteristics such as quartz oscillator is contained and a characteristic discriminating element 5 consisting of resistors for discriminating the specific characteristics of the oscillation bar 4 is also contained. The chip 4 is connected to oscillation electrodes 6, 6 implanted on the base plate 2, and the element 5 is connected to discriminating electrodes 7, 7. The holder 1 is connected to an oscillation circuit 9 and a temperature compensation circuit 10 by a socket 8. The circuit 9 is provided with, for example, a varactor diode 11 to compensate the frequency characteristics and a desired circuit out of compensation signal generating circuit 14∼16 is changed over via a discrimination circuit 12 and a changeover switch 13.
